NEW MEMBERS PAGE (23RD MARCH 2008)

How do I Join the Community as a member?

Please contact our Membership Secretary, Mark,  and he’ll discuss what options you should take. However,

you can enrol now by downloading the membership form, but we do advise talking to Mark beforehand.

There are various financial decisions to take and once decided, a form will be sent to you, fill it in and post it to Mark.

The new members form is then refered to our Rabbi, and he will also ask for Jewish documents, such as the marriage certificate,

Ketubah, to clarify. The enrolment is then approved by Synagogue Council members. A welcome letter is sent to you by our Administering

Secretary, Harvey and financial details are enclosed too from our Treasurer, Laurence.

from the three train stations in Luton. To the north, there are now connections to Bedford and even further stops in the East Midlands and North East England all commutable

to and from Luton. The M1 and A1(M) are conveniently close to get to.

What does Luton’s Jewish Community offer me? Why Should I become a member?

This Community offers religious services and social events all year round. The religious services are in the usual structural order as found in many Synagogues in the

UK and the Hebrew is prounounced in Ashkenazi. There are many social events tailored for everyone and specific age groups for everyone to get involved.

What are the services like?

There are structual orders to the services, and are to follow Prayer books called Siddurs (Daily), Chumash (Torah Readings) and Machzors (Festival Services).

The majority of the service is read and conducted in Hebrew, and all the books are bilingual with English text on the left hand page and the book is opened from the right.

Men and Women sit separately, separated by a curtain. We ask that the congregation not to talk during the services. We ask that all males, boys and men to wear head covering

and this also includes women who are married. We also ask that if the Ark is open, and the Rabbis’ sermon is been said, to not to enter either of the galleries.

Do I have to be a member to join services?

No, you can come to any service at any time you want, and you’ll receive a warm welcome from our congregants. We do however, would like all visitors to pay respect to Jewish traditions

and rituals when services are carried. Please contact our Rabbi for more detials on sevrices.

See our Treasurers’ page for more details on the financial side of the membership.
