The Luton United Synagogue represents the Orthodox Jewish community in Luton and around the Beds, Bucks and Herts area

United Synagogue

We are delighted to announce that our application to join the United Synaogue family has been formally approved by the United Synagogue Council, on 12 July 2010. There is a full report in the Jewish Chronicle.

Chief Rabbi Commemorates Luton Synaogue

Luton United Synagogue was honoured by the visit of the Chief Rabbi on 27 June 2010 to re-dedicate the synaogue. He gave a talk at which he recognised the spiritual commitment of the Luton Jewish Community to this small but welcoming synagogue building. He was impressed by the devotion of the community, with over ninety people attending the Sunday afternoon event to rededicate the synagogue and miss the World Cup match between England and Germany!. The Chief Rabbi unveiled a plaque to record the event and afterwards met members of the community over tea and cakes.

Community Changes it Name

To reflect being apart of the United Synagogue Family and to present a more modern image, the community has changed its name from the 'Luton Hebrew Congregation' to 'Luton United Synagogue'.

Young Jewish People in Luton, we need you!

Daniel, 20, is encouraging Young Jewish people to set up a Youth Group to get together on a regular basis. Please see New Youth Group page for more details.

New Synagogue Building for Luton United Synagogue

We continue to improve our new Synagogue Building and services, social functions and committee meetings are now regular and routine events. Those who have not visited for a few weeks will notice several changes, including stained glass windows, a new cover for the Ne'er Tamid, boards displaying the loyal Prayer for the Queen, a memorial board for the holocaust, improved lighting for the oren kodesh area.

Why not join us in the task of making this a centre for Judaism that we are proud of?

Generous donations are still gratefully received from all.

The new building is now the permanent place for Luton's Jewish Community, where we hold Services, have Cheder classrooms for education of Jewish Children and a venue for social activities.

We would like to raise funds to be able to improve our new building and our initial target is £50,000.

Our plan is:-

We offer religious services on Friday nights and Saturday mornings (Shabbat) as well as Jewish festivals. Services will continue during the improvements to our new building. Please contact our Rabbi for more details.

We will fundraise by holding events, and we will also publicise this new building, as a new beginning for the Jewish Community in Luton and surrounding areas. We would like to attract new members to our Community, and we feel that having a new building is a new attraction that we haven't been able to sell before.
