United Synagogue

Negotiations for Luton Hebrew Congregation to become a full member of the United Synagogue are now progressing rapidly. Full consultation with members will take place over the next few weeks.

New Synagogue Building for Luton Hebrew Congregation

We have now purchased our new Synagogue Building and the first service took place on 5 September 2009. The synagogue is now fully functioning and will be used for services on the High Holydays and on Shabbat.

We offer religious services on Friday nights and Saturday mornings (Shabbat) as well as Jewish festivals. Services will continue during the improvements to our new building. Please contact our Rabbi for more details.

Why not join us in the task of making this a centre for Judaism that we are proud of?

Generous donations are still gratefully received from all.

The new building is now the permanent place for Luton's Jewish Community, where we hold Services, have Cheder classrooms for education of Jewish Children and a venue for social activities.

We would like to raise funds to be able to improve our new building and our initial target is £50,000.
In first year we have:-

Made entensive internal renovations, including removal of internal walls to make a large hall for services, repaired the central heating system, upgraded electrical, security and fire alarm systems to meeting requirements of a place of public assembly.
Made a bespoke Oren Kodesh. A visitor from the United Synagogues said that 'many synagogues would be envious of it'.
Entirely redecorated
Erected a security fence
Cleared the garden of weeds and long grass.

There is always something to do from our Community. Look at each page for an activity.

Our plan is:-

To build a new Bimah.
To improve the kitchen.
Provide a partition for the Ark Recess.
To renovate the roof.
To build and maintain a new Mikveh.

After a year we have now raised over £25,000, and with many more donations promised. We hope to reach our target shortly.

We will fundraise by holding events, and we will also publicise this new building, as a new beginning for the Jewish Community in Luton and surrounding areas. We would like to attract new members to our Community, and we feel that having a new building is a new attraction that we haven't been able to sell before.
